Future Women's Flag Football Teams
Women's collegiate flag football has continued to grow in popularity since the first NAIA teams began competing in 2021. For the 2026-27 academic year, nearly 400 club and varsity teams will compete, including more than 100 new teams next season alone. The list below will document all the new flag football teams beginning with the 2027-28 academic year or later. All women's college flag football changes going into effect with the 2026-27 academic year can be found here.
For the future varsity teams, the table below provides information related to each school and its governing body (e.g., NCAA, NAIA), the conference in which the flag football team competes, and the anticipated first season. Schools without a known flag football conference are classified as independent teams. The table is searchable and can be sorted by any column.
One NCAA conference is confirmed to begin competing during the 2027-28 academic year: the NCAA Division I Big South Conference. At least three other NCAA conferences are expected to begin sponsoring women's college flag football in the coming years, but that number will undoubtedly increase.
