The NCAA Division II Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) may add a flag football championship in the spring of 2027. The CACC also confirmed previous reporting that Caldwell University (NJ) will add a women's flag football program beginning with the 2026-27 academic year.

Fellow CACC members Chestnut Hill College (PA), Goldey-Beacom College (DE), Holy Family University (PA), and Post University (CT) have previously announced the addition of flag football. Caldwell will put the conference at five varsity members for 2026-27. CACC Commissioner Dan Mara stated the following in the press release:

There is no doubt it is one of the fast-growing women’s sports in the United States. We are encouraged that five CACC members have added the sport and believe there will be more in the near future. The CACC is excited about the possibility of hosting our first flag football championship in 2027.”

Six NCAA conferences have announced the sponsorship of flag football: the American Southwest (NCAA D-III), Atlantic East (D-III), CIAA (D-II), Conference Carolinas (D-II), Empire 8 (D-III), and United East (D-III).

The CACC has 11 full members. The six CACC schools that have not announced the addition of flag football are the Dominican University New York, Felician University (NJ), Georgian Court University (NJ), Thomas Jefferson University (PA), University of Bridgeport (CT), and Wilmington University (DE).

Three colleges in New Jersey have announced a future flag football team. In addition to Caldwell, NJCAA members Camden County College and Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland will add flag football for the 2026-27 academic year. Those two schools compete in the Garden State Athletic Conference.

More than 225 club and varsity flag football teams from colleges across the country are expected to compete during the 2025-26 academic year. Over two dozen schools have already announced new flag football teams for the 2026-27 academic year, with more additions expected. The NCAA is expected to add flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women Program and could reach NCAA Championship status in 2028, according to NCAA President Charlie Baker.
