Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland Adding Flag Football

Rowan College of South Jersey-Cumberland will add a women's flag football team beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. RCSJ-Cumberland is located in Vineland, New Jersey, and is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
RCSJ-Cumberland will start the program after receiving a $5,000 grant from the NJCAA Foundation, NFL Flag, and Reigning Champs Experiences. Despite the proximity to New York, which is expected to see 25 schools participate in 2025-26, New Jersey only has four schools with a flag football program: Centenary University (NCAA Division III), Kean University (NCAA D-III), Montclair State (NCAA D-III), and Princeton University (coed club team). RCSJ-Cumberland would become the fifth New Jersey collegiate flag football team.
More than a dozen schools will debut flag football during the 2027 spring season, including Albright (PA), Blackburn (IL), Defiance (OH), Lourdes (OH), Meredith (NC), Northwestern Ohio (OH), Oklahoma Wesleyan (OK), RCSJ-Cumberland (NJ), Ripon (WI), Saint Mary (NE), Saginaw Valley State (MI), UT Arlington (TX), and Westminster (MO).
Additional announcements are expected in the coming week and months as flag football continues to grow at the collegiate level. Over 215 club and varsity teams from college across the US will compete in the 2026 spring season, including almost 100 new teams. The NAIA recently moved flag football from an emerging sport to invitational status for the upcoming 2026 season, while the NCAA is likely to add flag football to the Emerging Sports for Women program. Flag football will also make its debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
