The NCAA Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) will begin sponsoring women's flag football in the 2026-27 academic year. Current SCAC members Centenary College of Louisiana, Concordia University Texas, and Hendrix College (AR) will be joined by affiliate member Millsaps College (MS).

The SCAC plans to play a double-round robin regular season, followed by a conference championship in the spring of 2027. The regular season will feature three weekends where each team plays two games for a total of six conference games.

The SCAC is the most recent NCAA conference to add flag football as a sponsored sport, in advance of the January 2026 vote to add it to the NCAA's Emerging Sports for Women Program. The NCAA D-III American Southwest Conference will also begin sponsoring the sport in 2026-27, while the NCAA D-II Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference is considering the addition of a championship the same year.

Within the NCAA, the Atlantic East (D-III), CIAA (D-II), Conference Carolinas (D-II), Empire 8 (D-III), and United East (D-III) currently sponsor flag football. The NAIA's Great Southwest Athletic Conference (GSAC), Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC), and Sun Confernece sponsor the sport, while the NJCAA's Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) and Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) also sponsor it.

Over 220 schools are expected to compete during the 2025-26 academic year, including more than 100 new programs. The 2026-27 academic year already has three dozen new teams lined up, with that number set to grow in the coming months.
