Wisconsin-Oshkosh Adds Varsity Flag Football
The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh announced the addition of a varsity women's flag football team, intending to start competing in the 2025-26 academic year. UW-Oshkosh is the second team from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) to add the sport, following UW-Stout in the spring of 2025.
UW-Oshkosh becomes the sixth NCAA Division III school to add flag football, joining Beloit College, Lakeland University, Marian University, Ripon College, and UW-Stout. Ripon will begin playing during the 2026-27 academic year, while the other five will play in 2025-26. Bryant & Stratton College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, also competes in flag football as a member of the NJCAA.
The Titans have already started recruiting for the flag football team and will hire a head coach this fall. The team will play at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex Dome and J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
Over 225 club and varsity programs are expected to compete during the 2025-26 academic year, including more than 100 new teams. The NCAA is expected to add flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women Program and could reach NCAA Championship status in 2028, according to NCAA President Charlie Baker. The addition of flag football as a championship sport would coincide with flag football making its Olympic debut during the first week of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
