North Carolina Closer to Sanctioning Flag Football
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) had its Fall meeting at the start of December. That report is expected to be completed as early as February, with the NCHSAA possibly voting after the report is finalized.
NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker noted two outstanding issues that are preventing flag football from becoming a sanctioned sport. One is whether flag football should be played in the fall or spring, a topic that is to be addressed in the ongoing study. The other hurdle is funding, specifically, how the NCHSAA will pay for another championship when it currently has a $1.5 million deficit and is adding an additional four size classifications.
