Baltimore Ravens Funding Additional Flag Football Programs
The NFL's Baltimore Ravens will provide additional funding for high school programs in the state of Maryland. Calvert County and Charles County Public Schools will receive funding to help current programs, while two Baltimore City Public Schools will debut flag football later this year. The Ravens are pushing to have flag football become a sanctioned sport in Maryland, which is currently one of 17 states with a pilot program. 92 schools are expected to participate in 2025, with the Ravens hosting the Maryland Girls Flag Championships in November.
The Washington Commanders have also been pushing to have flag football sanctioned in the DMV area. In March, Washington announced a series of clinics throughout the surrounding areas to support the NFL's flag initiative. Along with the Ravens, it's likely only a matter of time before the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia sanction the sport at the high school level. 17 states currently sanction the sport, while another 17 have a pilot program.
