Nevada State Propels Flag Football in State; Eyes NAIA

Nevada State University is helping build up flag football in the state. High school flag football has seen participation rates triple in a decade, while NSU is currently the only varsity flag football program in Nevada. The Scorpions are in their first season, sitting at 10-0 and averaging nearly 50 points per game. Nevada State is not affiliated with any governing body, but plans to apply for membership with the NAIA. The Great Southwest Athletic Conference would be a likely destination for the flag football program, which currently has six teams in Arizona and California.

Players of the Week

Note: This section will be updated after the newsletter is sent out, as conferences announce players of the week throughout the week. Be sure to check back for an updated list.

The NCAA Division III Atlantic East Conference named its Players of the Week. Holy Family's (PA) Aalyce Davis won offensive POTW, following her 337 yards and 9 touchdowns as a passer, rusher, and receiver. Marywood's (PA) Miranda Taveras won the defensive honors after recording 7 flag pulls, 6 tackles-for-loss, 2 sacks, and an interception.

The NCAA D-III Empire 8 Conference Players of the Week were announced, and a pair of Elmira (NY) teammates swept the awards. On offense, Hannah Smith threw for 394 yards and 10 touchdown passes in Elmira's two wins. On defense, it was Amarionah Dixon, who tallied up 13 flag pulls, 5 interceptions, 5 pass breakups, and two defensive scores.

The NJCAA's FCSAA named Florida Gateway's Martha Edwards as the Offensive Player of the Week. Edwards threw for 343 yards and 9 touchdowns. The Defensive POTW award went to Daytona State's Dh'niza Turner after she recorded 7 flag pulls, 3 interceptions, and 3 defensive touchdowns.

Over in the NAIA's Great Southwest Athletic Conference, La Sierra (CA) swept the Player of the Week awards this week. Ariana Rivera won the offensive award for her 892 yards and 14 touchdown passes. Rivera also had 103 yards and 4 touchdowns on the ground in La Sierra's three wins. Makenzie McMillin captured the defensive honors after recording 33 flag pulls, 8 pass breakups, and 4 interceptions.

The NAIA's Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference also saw a pair of Baker (KS) teammates win the weekly awards for the first time this season. Sanija Waller won on offense for her 231 yards and 6 touchdown passes, and 159 yards and 3 TDs rushing. Daniela Canals brought home the Defensive Player of the Week for her 18 flag pulls and 2 interceptions.

The NAIA's Sun Conference saw a new pair of players capture Player of the Week honors. Arie-Yona Christion won the offensive award for Thomas (GA) after recording 13 catches for 208 yards and 5 touchdowns. Keiser's (FL) Dakota Moberg won the defensive award for her 24 flag pulls, 4 pass breakups, and an interception.

The NCAA D-III United East Conference named a Penn State Harrisburg duo as the Players of the Week. Nadia King took home the offensive award after throwing for 215 yards and 5 touchdowns, running for 175 yards and 6 TDs, and recording 1 receiving touchdown. On defense, Jordan Carpenter won the honors for her five flag pulls, three interceptions, and a punt return touchdown.

Two NCAA Division III Conferences Launch Strategic Partnership

The NCAA Division III Atlantic East Conference and the United East Conference are looking to form a strategic partnership. The conferences were clear that this is not a merger. The goal is to provide member schools of both conferences access to the NCAA championships. For flag football, the AEC has nine varsity programs for the 2026 spring season: Centenary University (NJ), Chestnut Hill University (PA), Eastern University (PA), Holy Family University (PA), Immaculata University (PA), Marymount University (VA), Marywood University (PA), Neumann University (PA), and Penn State Schuylkill (PA).

The AEC is also set to see the four departures in some capacity, adding another level of complexity. The Chestnut Hill and Holy Family flag football programs are expected to compete in the NCAA Division II Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. Marywood and Neumann are full members of the AEC, but will change membership to the Middle Atlantic Conferences in the 2026-27 academic year. The D-III MAC is expected to sponsor flag football by the 2028-29 academic year, but both Marywood and Neuman could still compete in the AEC (or UEC) as affiliate members in flag football until then.

Meanwhile, the UEC has five varsity teams: Cairn University (PA), Cedar Crest College (PA), Gallaudet University (D.C.), Keystone College (PA), and Penn State Harrisburg (PA). Lancaster Bible College (PA) also competes at the club level, but is not considered part of the UEC's varsity membership this year.

As of this posting, the combined AEC/UEC flag football membership for the 2026-27 academic year is expected to range from 10 to 13 programs in 2026-27. That estimate assumes no additional full membership changes, no affiliate membership changes, and no AEC/UEC schools adding or dropping flag football.

US Men's National Team Sweeps Fanatics Flag Football Classic

A touchdown by the Wildcats cut the deficit to 18-14, but Team USA responded with another score to win 24-14. Team USA scored at will across all three games. The only time they didn't score was when they took a knee to run out the clock.
