Huntingdon College (AL) will join the NCAA Division III Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) as an affiliate member for women's flag football beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. Huntingdon currently competes without a conference affiliation for flag football.

In October 2025, the SCAC announced it would begin sponsoring flag football beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. Huntingdon will join Centenary College of Louisiana, Concordia University of Texas, Hendrix College (AR), and Millsaps College (MS) to give the SCAC five flag football members.

The SCAC will join a growing number of NCAA D-III conferences to offer flag football. In 2026-27, the American Southwest Conference, Atlantic East Conference, Empire 8, and United East Conference will sponsor flag football. The Middle Atlantic Conference, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, and Old Dominion Athletic Conference are also planning to sponsor flag football in the coming years.

Los Angeles Harbor College Adding Varsity Flag Football

Los Angeles Harbor College (CA) will add a varsity women's flag football team beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. The school confirmed the new program in an email to Collegiate Flag Football. LAHC competes in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A/CCCAA).

Including future teams, California leads the nation with nearly 40 collegiate flag football programs. The 3C2A accounts for more than half of those programs, with Southern California having the highest concentration. The Orange Empire Conference is the first 3C2A conference scheduled to host a flag football conference tournament. The OEC will play semifinal games on Friday, April 24, and the tournament final on Friday, May 1.

Flag football is expected to grow at the collegiate level in the coming months and years. The NFL has grown the sport at the youth and high school levels, which has led to growing adoption among colleges and universities. The sport will also debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the NFL is in the process of starting a professional flag football league.
