Welcome to the January 19 edition of the women's college flag football newsletter here at Collegiate Flag Football. We will look at the various stories and happenings across the sport over the last week, between Monday, January 12, and Sunday, January 18, 2026. NCAA Adds Flag Football to Emerging Sports for Women Program

The NCAA's three divisions added flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women program last week. NCAA Division I approved the recommendation on Wednesday, followed by Divisions II and III on Friday. Flag football's next step is to become a Championship Sport, which requires 40 varsity teams and meeting the minimum contest requirements.

2 Additions This Week, 2 Changes, 1 New Varsity Conference

The University of Nebraska announced the addition of a varsity women's flag football team beginning with the 2027-28 academic year. The Cornhuskers are the first school from the Big Ten Conference and any NCAA Division I Power 4 conference to add a varsity team.

Knox College (IL) will add a club flag football team beginning with the 2026-27 academic year and elevate it to a varsity program in the 2027-28 academic year. Knox is the fifth school from the NCAA Division III Midwest Conference to add a team.

Lakeland University (WI) will start its flag football program in the spring 2027 season, instead of the 2026 season.

Newberry College (SC) will join the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas as an affiliate member beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. Newberry will compete as an independent team for the 2026 spring season.

The NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) will elevate flag football varsity status beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. Bluefield State University (WV), Bowie State University (MD), Claflin University (SC), Fayetteville State University (NC), Johnson C. Smith University (NC), Livingstone College (NC), Virginia Union University, and Winston-Salem State University (NC) currently compete as club teams in the CIAA.

2026 Spring Scheduling News

Cal Poly (CA) will host its first spring tournament on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2026. The tournament is open to any school that wishes to participate, and it will be held on campus in San Luis Obispo, California. Any collegiate flag football program interested in competing at Cal Poly's tournament should contact Ryan Weisenberg (rweisenb@calpoly[dot]edu).

The National Collegiate Flag Football League (NCFFL) spring 2026 campaign will feature a 10-game season, with playoffs and a championship. For current NCFFL members, there are still slots available for the Maryland Regional, Pennsylvania Regional, and National Championship. The deadline for those is Thursday, January 15, 2026. The NCFFL also posted the current list of participants for spring 2026. Dates for the spring tournaments and championships are as follows:

The first spring tournament will take place on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, at Howard Community College (MD) in Columbia, Maryland. The second spring tournament will take place two weeks later, on Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, at Lancaster Bible College (PA) in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Finally, the NCFFL National Championships will be held on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, at the Capelli Sports Complex in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.

The NCFFL is looking for schools that would like to host a flag football tournament during the 2026-27 academic year. The NCFFL plans to have at least 8 events next season. For fall 2026, the aim is to have 2 East Coast and 1 West Coast tournaments. For spring 2027, the NCFFL is hoping to have 4 regionals in the Central and Eastern US, 2 in the Midwest and West Coast, and the National Championship. The Women's Collegiate Flag Football League (WCFFL) is looking for additional teams to compete during the 2026 spring season. The WCFFL will have tournaments in the spring. Those interested should contact Venisha Lee (wcflagfootball1@gmail[dot]com).

NEW THIS WEEK: The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX) announced a women's flag football showcase on Sunday, February 22. UMHB will host a pair of games, featuring Cottey College (MO) versus Concordia University Texas and Cottey (MO) against Prairie View A&M University (TX).

NEW THIS WEEK: El Camino College (CA) posted its inaugural schedule for spring 2026. El Camino will have a scrimmage on Thursday, January 29, and then kick off the season on Tuesday, February 10, at East Los Angeles College (CA). The Warriors will have two more road games in February: at Cypress College (CA) on Thursday, February 19, and at Saddleback College (CA) on Tuesday, February 24. March will start with the MiraCosta tournament on Friday, March 6, with games against Irvine Valley College (CA) and Saddleback (CA).

El Camino will be back on Tuesday, March 10, with another game against Saddleback (CA), followed by a road game at Norco College (CA) on Thursday, March 19. There will be a doubleheader on Thursday, March 19, against Long Beach State (CA) and Norco (CA). The Warriors will face a pair of Big Ten club teams to end the month, with matchups versus UCLA on Thursday, March 26, and USC on Tuesday, March 31. The penultimate game of the regular season will be on Thursday, April 9, against East Los Angeles (CA), while the finale will be on Thursday, April 23, versus USC.

NEW THIS WEEK: Simpson University (CA) set its 2026 spring schedule. The Red Hawks will start the season on Saturday, February 7, with a game at Irvine Valley College (CA). Next up, Simpson will face Nevada State University in a scrimmage on Saturday, February 28. There will be a short break before returning to action in March.

On Wednesday, March 11, Simpson will play at La Sierra University (CA), followed by a scrimmage at Nevada State the next day. Simpson will then take on Hope International University (CA) on Saturday, March 14. There will be a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 18, against Arizona Christian University and Ottawa University (AZ), with a game against Benedictine University Mesa (AZ) the following day. Simpson will end the month with home games against La Sierra (CA) on Thursday, March 26, and Hope International (CA) on Saturday, March 28.

April will begin with a scrimmage against Nevada State on Saturday, April 4. A doubleheader against Arizona Christian and Ottawa (AZ) on Wednesday, April 8, leading to the final regular season game against Benedictine Mesa (AZ) on Thursday, April 9. The Great Southwest Athletic Conference (GSAC) will have its conference tournament on Thursday, April 16, and Friday, April 17.

NEW THIS WEEK: Ventura College (CA) unveiled its 2026 spring schedule. Ventura will start the season on Thursday, February 5, against Santa Barbara Community College (CA). Next up will be a game against Saddleback College (CA) on Wednesday, February 11, and a game against Cal Lutheran (CA) on Wednesday, February 18. The Pirates will take part in the Saddleback tournament on Friday, February 20. The final game of the month will be against East Los Angeles College (CA).

March will begin with games against Irvine Valley College (CA) on Wednesday, March 4, and Cal Lutheran on Friday, March 6. Ventura will compete in the MiraCosta tournament on Friday, March 13. On Monday, March 23, Ventura will face Irvine Valley (CA) and close out the month with a game at Norco College (CA) on Tuesday, March 31.

April will start with home games on Wednesday, April 8, against East Los Angeles (CA) and Friday, April 10, against Saddleback (CA). Ventura is scheduled to take part in the Cal Lutheran tournament on Saturday, April 18. The Pirates will have a home doubleheader on Friday, April 24, against Cal Lutheran and Norco (CA), before ending the season with the Cal Poly tournament on Saturday, May 9.

NEW THIS WEEK: The University of Virginia revealed its 2026 spring club schedule. The Cavaliers will open with a doubleheader at North Carolina Central University on Saturday, January 31. UVA will have an away game on Sunday, February 8, against Marymount University (VA). The UVA tournament will be held on Saturday, February 21, and Sunday, February 22.

The final half of the spring slate will start at Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 21. UVA will take part in North Carolina Central's tournament on Saturday, March 28, and in the University of Pittsburgh's tournament on Saturday, April 18. The regular season will conclude on Sunday, April 19, with a game at Shenandoah University (VA).

NEW THIS WEEK: Warner University (FL) announced its 2026 spring slate. The Royals will start the season on Tuesday, February 17, with a home game against Hope International University (CA). The second game of the season will be against Brewton-Parker Christian University (GA) on Friday, February 27. March will begin with the IFFA Tournament in Tampa, Florida, from Thursday, March 5, through Saturday, March 7. Warner will then play against Siena Heights University (MI) on Monday, March 9, and the University of Saint Francis (IN) on Tuesday, March 10.

The Royals will play against Point University (GA) on Friday, March 13. After a short break, Warner will be back to face Life University (GA) on Monday, March 23, with another game the next day versus Reinhardt University (GA). Warner will also face Alabama State University on Friday, March 27, and Thomas University (GA) on Saturday, March 28.

The regular season will conclude with four games in April, with the first coming at home on Thursday, April 2, against St. Thomas University (FL). On Saturday, April 4, Warner will face Florida Memorial University. The final regular season road game will be on Tuesday, April 7, at Webber International University (FL). The final regular season game will be at home against Keiser University (FL) on Saturday, April 11.

Baldwin Wallace University (OH) posted a job description for the head coaching vacancy. Baldwin Wallace will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: Benedictine University Mesa (AZ) named Darnell Chavez as the flag football team's defensive coordinator.

Campbellsville University (KY) is seeking a part-time assistant flag football coach. The Tigers named Spencer McCown head coach in July 2025.

The College of Saint Benedict (MN) posted a job description for a women's flag football head coaching vacancy. CSB will begin competing as a club team during the 2025-26 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: The College of Staten Island (NY) posted a job description for the women's flag football coaching vacancy. The team was previously led by Frank Jennaco, who went 7-0-1 in the spring 2025 season en route to winning the inaugural NCFFL Championship.

Fairleigh Dickinson University (NJ) posted the job description for the women's flag football head coaching position. FDU will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year.

Grossmont College (CA) posted the job description for the women's flag football head coaching role.

Guilford College (NC) posted the job description for the women's flag football head coaching vacancy. Guilford will begin playing flag football in the 2026-27 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: The Guimond Vukovic Group (GVG) is offering postgraduate opportunities for athletes who are seeking a one-year master's degree in the United Kingdom. Scholarship opportunities are available for students with a GPA of 2.8 or higher. Athletes who wish to continue playing collegiate flag football, develop programs, build the sport internationally, or pursue coaching opportunities are encouraged to apply. GVG offers a free service to connect student-athletes with partner institutions in the U.K. The FAQ section on GVG's website provides additional information. This postgraduate opportunity is in the United Kingdom.

Hardin-Simmons University (TX) posted the job description for the women's flag football head coaching role. HSU will begin playing in the 2026-27 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: Hastings College (NE) named DeAndre Robinson as the flag football program's inaugural head coach. Robinson was previously the head coach at Eagle's Landing High School in Georgia for over five years. Hastings will play its first season in the 2026-27 academic year.

Howard Payne University (TX) posted the job description for the women's flag football coaching vacancy. HPU will begin competing during the 2026-27 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: Indiana Wesleyan University named Travis Combs as the program's first head coach. Combs has been the head coach at Lennard High School in Ruskin, Florida, since 2019 and included a state runner-up finish in 2024. Indiana Wesleyan will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year.

Jackson State Community College (TN) posted the job description for the women's flag football head coaching vacancy. JSCC will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year.

Jacksonville University (FL) posted the job description for the women's flag football club team vacancy. Jacksonville will play its first season in spring 2026.

Lewis University (IL) posted the job description for the women's flag football head coach opening. Lewis will play its first season in the 2026-27 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: Manhattan University (NY) selected Frank Jennaco as the program's first head coach. Jennaco previously led the club team at the College of Staten Island (NY). CSI went 7-0-1 en route to winning the inaugural NCFFL Championship in the spring 2025 season.

McPherson College (KS) is looking to fill its head coaching vacancy. Those interested can fill out the application here or contact Ed Loeb at loebe@mcpherson[dot]com. McPherson will begin playing in the 2026-27 academic year.

Newberry College (SC) posted the job description for a women's flag football head coaching opening. Newberry will begin competing in spring 2026.

Northwest Shoals Community College (AL) has posted the job description for the head coaching vacancy. Jamie Jeffreys previously held the position for the 2025 fall season.

NEW THIS WEEK: SUNY Geneseo (NY) named Terry Summerfield as an assistant coach.

NEW THIS WEEK: Thiel College (PA) named Torre Bogan as the flag football team's defensive coordinator. Bogan is the Founder and head coach of the Ohio Flag Football Academy, and has previous competitive flag football playing experience. Thiel will begin competing this spring.

Triton College (IL) is seeking an assistant coach for the 2026 spring season. Those interested should reach out to head coach Scott Smith at samuelesmith3@triton[dot]com.

The University of Illinois Springfield posted the job description for the women's flag football head coaching role. UIS will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: The University of Illinois Springfield named Jim Klein as an interim assistant flag football coach, while the school continues to search for a head coach. Klein was a football player at the University of Illinois from 1992 through 1994.

The University of North Alabama posted the job description for the women's flag football head coach opening. The Lions will begin competing in the 2026-27 academic year.

NEW THIS WEEK: The University of Saint Mary (KS) named Elle Campbell as the program's new head coach. Campbell is a former Saint Mary player and will take over for Amber Clark, who departed for Saginaw Valley State University (MI). Campbell was USM's second leading WR in 2023, with 16 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown.

Prairie View A&M University (TX) and Nike will host a winter flag football mega camp on Sunday, January 25, 2026. The camp will be held from 1 PM to 5 PM at the Panther Stadium in Prairie View, Texas. Colleges that will be in attendance include Cottey (MO), Florida Memorial, Grand Canyon (AZ), Hesston (KS), Kansas Wesleyan, LaGrange (GA), Point (GA), Southwestern (KS), St. Thomas (FL), and Webber International (FL).

The Heritage Girls Flag Bowl will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in San Diego, California. The Flag Bowl is open to junior and senior high school students. Players interested in participating can register here, with coaches from the two teams evaluating and ranking players to provide an opportunity to be drafted to play in the Heritage Bowl. The registration deadline is Saturday, October 25, and players will be drafted on Saturday, November 1. Players participating in the Flag Bowl will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to San Diego.

The Houston Texans will host a girls flag football college showcase on Saturday, January 31, 2026. The showcase will be held at the Houston Methodist Training Center in Houston, Texas. The registration form can be found here.

NEW THIS WEEK: Prime Access Athletics (MS) will host a college exposure camp on Saturday, January 31, 2026. The camp will be held at the Madison Healthplex in Madison, Mississippi.

The Indianapolis Colts will host a youth Talent ID Camp on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in Westfield, Indiana. The camp will run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The deadline to register is Friday, January 23, 2026.

The Miami Dolphins will host an adult Talent ID Camp on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in Miami Gardens, Florida. The camp will run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The deadline to register is Friday, January 30, 2026.

Villa Maria College (NY) will have a women's flag football camp & showcase on Saturday, February 14, 2026, which will feature US Women's National Team member Izzy Geraci. The camp will take place from 12 PM to 2:30 PM at Villa Maria's athletic center in Buffalo, New York.

NEW THIS WEEK: Alabama State University is hosting a women's flag football camp on Sunday, February 15, from 12 to 3 PM. The camp is free and open to 11th and 12th-grade players. The camp will be held on campus at New Hornet Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will host a youth Talent ID Camp on Sunday, February 15, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. The camp will run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The deadline to register is Friday, February 6, 2026.

NEW THIS WEEK: Arizona Christian University will host a flag football talent ID camp from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturday, February 21. The camp will be open to 11th and 12th graders, and will be held at ACU's main football field in Glendale, Arizona.

NEW THIS WEEK: East Texas Baptist University will host a flag football prospect camp from 1 PM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, February 21. The camp is open to any high school players, plus transfer students, and will be held at ETBU's football field in Marshall, Texas.

SCAD Savannah (GA) is hosting a women's flag football prospect camp on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. The camp will take place after the SCAD Day events from 9 AM to 2 PM. The camp will be held at the SCAD Athletics Complex, located just across the Georgia-South Carolina border in Hardeeville, South Carolina.

The Seattle Seahawks will host a youth Talent ID Camp on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in Renton, Washington. The camp will run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The deadline to register is Friday, February 13, 2026.

The New York Jets will host a youth Talent ID Camp on Saturday, February 28, 2026, in Florham Park, New Jersey. The camp will run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The deadline to register is Friday, February 20, 2026.

The Philadelphia Eagles will host a youth Talent ID Camp on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The camp will run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The deadline to register is Friday, February 27, 2026.

The Arizona Cardinals will host an NFL FLAG Spring Regional on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the West Valley Sports Complex in Glendale, Arizona. The registration deadline is Monday, February 9, 2026.

The Miami Dolphins will host an NFL FLAG Spring Regional on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Mills Pond Park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The registration deadline is Monday, February 9, 2026.

The Dallas Cowboys will host a youth Talent ID Camp on Sunday, March 15, 2026, in Dallas, Texas. The camp will run from 9 AM to 5 PM. The deadline to register is Friday, March 6, 2026.

Howard Community College (MD) will host a spring flag football league in the Spring of 2026. Games will be played each Sunday, starting March 22, 2026, and the league will conclude on June 14, 2026.

Niagara Youth Flag Football (Canada) will host an All-Girls University Camp on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 9 AM to 12 PM. The camp will take place at Youngs Sportsplex in Welland, Ontario, Canada. Canadian Universities Brock, Sheridan, and Western will be joined by Villa Maria College from the Buffalo, New York area.

NEW THIS WEEK: She Plays (AZ) is hosting a girls flag football college showcase and combine on Sunday, May 31, 2026. The showcase will be held from 9 AM to 12 PM in Chandler, Arizona. Arizona Christian University, Benedictine University at Mesa (AZ), Chowan University (NC), Grossmont College (CA), Lourdes University (OH), Mars Hill University (NC), Meredith College (NC), North Park University (IL), SCAD Savannah (GA), University of Arizona, University of Northwestern Ohio, and University of Redlands (CA) are expected to be in attendance.

Millersville University (PA) will host its 2nd annual girls flag football camp from Wednesday, June 24, through Sunday, June 28, 2026. The camp will feature two-a-day practices, film review, evaluations, guest speakers, and strength and conditioning.

The International Flag League (formerly USA Flag) will host its 2027 National Championships in Tampa, Florida, on MLK weekend in January 2027. The dates are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, January 13, 2027, through Sunday, January 17, 2027.

The International Flag League (formerly USA Flag) will host its 2027 World Championships in Los Angeles, California, from Thursday, July 8, 2027, through Sunday, July 11, 2027. A collegiate division will be competing for the first time at the 2027 championships.

Indiana Wesleyan Signs Media Rights Deal

Indiana Wesleyan University signed a media rights deal with the Urban Edge Network, which will show all athletic events on the network. Included in those events will be flag football, which play its first season in the 2026-27 academic year.

Two Pro Flag Football Leagues Launched

There are new professional flag football leagues. The So Cal Women's Pro Flag Football League (SCWPFFL) will have its first season later this year, featuring 8 teams. The season will run from June through mid-August, with 14 regular season games, and conclude with playoffs. The league will be split into Northern and Southern Conferences. The Northern half will include Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, Santa Barbara County, and Ventura County. The Southern half will include Imperial County, Orange County, Riverside County, and San Diego County.

The USA Flag and the International Flag League (iFL) announced a new league for both men and women. It will feature 16 teams, use the 5v5 format, and begin play in 2027.

Southwestern College Profiles Vivianna Solis

Southwestern College (KS) profiled senior Vivianna Solis as the 2026 spring season nears. Solis has helped shape the team in her two years by playing both sides of the ball. She's caught 78 passes for 815 yards and 10 touchdowns, while also recording 13 interceptions in two years. Southwestern's 2026 spring season will begin on Saturday, February 28, with a home game against William Woods University (MO).

St. Thomas Expanding Stadium

St. Thomas University (FL) will expand AutoNation Field to include a grandstand for 2,000 spectators. STU built the facility in 2021 and plans to have the construction completed before the start of the 2026-27 academic year. AutoNation Field is used by several sports, including the flag football team.

US Men's National Team to Play Mexico

The US Men's National Flag Football team will play against the Mexico National team on Thursday, February 5, in an exhibition game. It will be part of a weeklong festival of flag football events, which include the AFC-NFC flag football game. There will also be a high school Flag Football Showcase on Tuesday, February 3, featuring 32 of the top high school players from around the country.
