Hawaii Talks About Possible Addition of Flag Football

University of Hawaii athletics director Matt Elliott spoke to Guava Press Media about the possibility of adding women's flag football. Elliott stated that flag football is in "step one" of the exploration process.

"Some parts of it feel kind of easy, like they can play on the field. We already have a field, right? You don't need to build a new arena; you can play in the spring. But we don't have a locker room; we don't have an athletics trainer; we don't have an academic staff member to support them; we don't have a team doctor. If you think about adding a new team, you have to make sure you have the capacity to do all of those things the right way because you can't bring in 25 new athletes and say 'you got to tape yourselves up'. That's not how D1 works at this level.
I would love to do it. I would love to have a team, but it takes work and it takes money, so that's a project we're exploring. If we were ready to say 'okay, flag football is next,' then we would see how does that position us from an athletics standpoint."

Randolph College Talks Addition of Flag

Randolph College (VA) Athletic Director Tom Galbraith spoke with The News & Advance in a recent interview. Galbraith was candid about the school's addition of women's flag football, as well as other sports added in the last five years. The school is seeking to boost enrollment by adding sports, but has also added undergraduate and graduate programs to help add students. The low startup expenses were also a factor in the addition of flag football.

On the hire of Andy Sinclair as the flag football program's inaugural head coach, Galbraith conceded that only one applicant had experience coaching at the collegiate level. Sinclair was previously the men's lacrosse coach at Randolph. Galbraith expects the team to be competitive immediately when the program launches in the 2027-28 academic year.

Randolph is a member of the NCAA Division III Old Dominion Athletic Conference, which currently does not sponsor women's flag football. Galbraith confirmed previous reporting that the ODAC is working towards sponsoring the sport when six conference members add women's flag football. The full interview can be read here.

World Flag Series Won by H.E.R.

H.E.R. (Hustle Every Rep) won the inaugural event, going undefeated to win the first World Flag Series event. H.E.R. went 2-0 in the round-robin to receive a bye straight to the championship game. The Glitter Bombs defeated the Ice Queens in the round-robin and the semifinals to set up a rematch with H.E.R. The two teams went down to the wire in both games.

Lacey Abell found Rylee Bolser on a go route to give the Glitter Bombs a 7-0 lead midway through the first half. H.E.R scored midway into the second half when Haylie Young lateraled the pass back to Clara Beaudoin, who found Silvana Munoz just beyond the pylon on a sliding catch. The point after attempt was dropped, giving the Glitter Bombs a slim 7-6 advantage.

H.E.R intercepted a pass with less than a minute left to give themselves one last chance. After moving past midfield, Young found Olivia Ghosh-Swaby on a pass down to the one-yard line. On the next play, Young connected with Munoz for the score and a 12-7 lead. The Glitter Bombs had one final play but could only get to midfield.

Haylie Young of H.E.R. won the WFS1 MVP Award, Rylee Bolser of the Glitter Bombs won the Offensive Player of the Tournament, and Sarah Massucci won the Defensive Player of the Tournament.
